Step 1 – Shut off the fuel at the petcock and remove rear brake cable by unscrewing brake rod adjustment nut and pulling cable through brake arm joint. Re-install adjustment nut and brake arm joint to rear brake cable to keep from losing.
Step 2 – Remove rear shock bolt and move shock up and out of the way. Re-install shock bolt into shock to keep from losing.
Step 3 – On the nc50 express (77-80 years) only (not the urban), remove brake cable from cable guides.
Step 4 – You can either remove complete carburetor from intake by unscrewing two bolts that hold carburetor to intake and removing the fuel/oil lines; or you can remove 1) slide chamber cab; 2) fuel and oil lines. Your call. On the Express nc50, you will need to remove the ground wire which is usually attached to the carburetor/intake bolt.
Step 5 – Unplug stator wires.
Step 6 – Unplug spark plug wire from spark plug.
Step 7 – Remove engine mount bolt with 14mm socket and 17mm wrench. You may need to tap bolt at one end with rubber mallet to get it started. Then take some pliers and pull it all the way through. Re-install frame mounting bolt, nut and washer into the engine or the frame. Your call.
Step 8 – Lift the frame off the engine. You may need someone to help you. As you lift the frame off the engine, have your helper check and make sure that nothing is still connecting the frame and engine together. If so, put the frame back on the engine and remove whatever is still connected.
Have a crate or box to set the frame on and something to rest it against as it may tip over. The rear tire and rear fender will stay with the engine. You can remove these later if need be. If you are going to ship the engine, you may want to drain it of oil (on both the Express and Urban Express).
